How to install mtivi on an Android TV box, Fire TV Stick or phone

Where to get the app for every kind of device, including TV boxes that have no store on them.

mtivi runs on Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV, and Android phones and tablets. Pick the section that matches the device in front of you.

Android TV and Google TV

Open the Play Store on the TV
It sits on the home row of most Android TV and Google TV devices.
Search for mtivi
Hold the microphone button on the remote if typing with the D-pad is slow.
Install it, then open it
The app lands in your apps row. Move it to the front row so it is one click from the home screen.

Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube

Fire devices have their own store, so mtivi is installed with the free Downloader app. You do not have to type a web address: we have a short code for it.

Install Downloader from the Amazon store
Search for Downloader on the Fire TV home screen and install it. It is free.
Let Downloader install apps
Fire TV asks for this once. Settings, then My Fire TV, then Developer options, then Install unknown apps, and switch it on for Downloader. If Developer options is not there, open Settings, My Fire TV, About, and press OK on the device name seven times.
Open Downloader and enter 1706057
That is our code. Type the seven digits in the box and press Go. Downloader fetches the app for you, so there is no address to spell out with a remote.
Install it, then open it
Choose Install when Fire TV asks, then Open. Downloader offers to delete the file it downloaded afterwards, and you can say yes.

If the code does not work, type mtivi.app/mtivi.apk in the same Downloader box instead. Both fetch the same app. The code is only there to save you the typing.

Android phones and tablets

Search for mtivi in the Play Store, or open mtivi.app/download in the phone browser and install from there. The phone version is also the easiest way to manage the playlists on your TV, because typing a long address is faster on a keyboard.

Other TV boxes without a store

The same Downloader code works here: install Downloader, enter 1706057, and let it do the rest. If your box has no Downloader, open mtivi.app/download in its browser and install from there. If the box refuses the install, turn on installs from unknown sources in its security settings first, then try again.

Smart TVs and Windows. Samsung and LG smart TVs cannot run mtivi today, so plug an Android TV box or a Fire TV Stick into the TV instead. A Windows app is in development and is not available to download yet.

After it is installed

Open it and add your playlist. That is the only step: no account, no card, nothing to sign up for. See Add your first playlist.

Keeping it up to date

If you installed from the Play Store, updates arrive on their own. If you installed the file from our download page, the app checks for a newer build itself and shows a code you can scan with a phone to fetch it. See Update mtivi to the newest version.
