Which protection schemes play, where the keys come from, and what protected content can never do.
Some streams are encrypted and need a license before they will play. mtivi supports the three schemes services actually use.

The details are read from the playlist entry itself, so a correctly built playlist needs nothing from you.
DRM blocked this stream
That message means the license could not be obtained. It is not something a setting fixes. Ask your service whether that channel needs a license they have not supplied, or whether your playlist is entitled to it.
What protected content cannot do. It cannot be recorded, it cannot be downloaded for offline viewing, and it cannot be cast to another screen. Those are the conditions the protection imposes, not limits we chose.
Playback quality on protected streams
Some devices restrict protected content to a lower resolution unless their secure video path is available. If one channel is noticeably softer than the rest, that is usually why.
