The count per device by plan, what happens at the limit, and why the ones you already added are safe.
The limit counts playlists set up on one device. It is not a limit on how often you may change them.

At the limit
Adding another one is blocked and the app names the plan that raises the count. Deleting a playlist frees the slot straight away.
Your plan ending never deletes a playlist. If a plan lapses while you hold five, all five keep working. Only adding a sixth is blocked. That rule holds across the whole app: you keep what you have.
Playlists are per device
Each device carries its own list. On a plan that includes cloud sync, playlists added on one device also appear on the others on your account. See Keep your setup in sync across devices.
