What a connection means on your playlist

Your service counts simultaneous streams, not devices. Understanding that explains most maximum streams messages.

Short answer: a connection is one stream playing at one moment. Services sell playlists with one, two or more, and going over shows a maximum streams message.

What uses one

  • Anything playing, including a mini player or Picture-in-Picture.
  • Each tile in Multi-View. Four tiles are four connections.
  • A recording, whether or not you are watching it.
  • A download in progress.
  • A cast to another screen.
  • Any other device in the house on the same playlist.

Why it looks random

Services usually hold a finished session open for a short while before releasing it, so a channel change can briefly count as two. That is why the message sometimes appears when you believe nothing else is playing, then clears a minute later.

It is not your app or your internet. The limit is on your subscription, and only your service can raise it.

Living with one connection: recording on a playlist that allows one stream. Fixing the message: Maximum streams reached.
