You can use mtivi without paying. Here is exactly where the free plan stops and what the trial opens up.
mtivi is free to use with your own playlist, and it stays free. You begin on a 7-day trial with the paid features on, then the app asks you to link a free account, and from there you carry on at no cost. Paying is optional: it widens the limits and adds the features that cost us money to run.

Everything else about watching is open on Free: the full player, 4K and HDR, frame-rate matching, Picture-in-Picture, casting, the guide, reminders, parental PIN locks, favorites, collections, search, the Title Optimizer, playlist subtitles, and the app in more than 55 languages.
What Free does not include
- Scheduling a recording for later, or repeating one every week.
- Subtitles generated on the device when a stream carries none, and the built-in offline translation.
- Kids and Private profiles.
- Combining several playlists into one list and guide.
- Your own words in the Title Optimizer.
The 7-day trial, and what happens after it
Every new device gets 7 days with the paid features switched on. No account is needed for it and no card is asked for. The clock starts when you add your first playlist, not when you install the app, so nothing is burned while you are still hunting for your login details.
When the 7 days end, mtivi asks you to link the device to a free account. That is the only thing it ever asks for, it costs nothing, and once it is done you keep using mtivi on the Free plan for as long as you want. See Link your TV to your account.
During the trial you get 5 playlists, an unlimited guide and catch-up window, 6 channels in Multi-View, generated subtitles and offline translation, Kids and Private profiles, scheduled and repeat recordings, and 15 AI-translated videos.
When the trial ends, you keep what you made. Extrplaylists, recordings, downloads, and anything already inside Kids or Private stay usable. The plan only limits making more.
