The Device ID changed after a reinstall

Some devices hand out a new identity after a reinstall. Here is what that means and how to recover.

The Device ID is derived from the device, and on most hardware it survives an app update, an uninstall and a reinstall. On a few devices it does not, and the app warns you when it sees that risk.

What a new ID means

To us, the device looks brand new. It is not linked, it holds no plan, and it has no playlists.

Recover it

  1. Link the device again

Use the new Device ID and Key on mtivi.app. See Link your TV to your account.

  2. Add your playlists back

Fastest from a phone: Manage your playlists from a phone or computer.

  3. Move your paid plan across

The old entry still holds it. Transfer it to the new device: Move your plan to a new device.

  4. Tidy the old entry

Once the plan has moved, the old device entry can stay or go. It carries nothing.

Next time, export a backup first. Favorites, collections, hidden items and your layout come back in one import. See Export a backup and restore it.

If you are stuck

Have the old Device ID and the new one ready and contact support. We can see both on your account and tell you which one holds what.
