What mtivi can cast to, and receive from

The screens mtivi can send to, what it accepts as a receiver, and the streams that cannot travel.

mtivi casts in both directions, over the two standards TVs and streamers actually speak.

Sending from mtivi

Target Examples
Google Cast Chromecast devices, and TVs and speakers with Cast built in
DLNA screens Smart TVs, consoles, media players and receivers that accept DLNA

Receiving on mtivi

Your box can act as a DLNA screen that other devices send video to. What arrives plays in mtivi’s own player, so a video from any app on your phone gains generated subtitles, live translation, your own subtitle files and the full 4K, HDR and Dolby handling. Receiving is off until you switch it on, and it is refused while the Kids profile is open. See Cast any video into mtivi.

What cannot be cast

Case Why
Protected streams The license cannot travel to another device
RTSP and RTMP streams Not supported for casting
A format the target cannot decode A small streaming device has its own limits, narrower than a TV box
Portal channels, sometimes A portal ties its links to a session, and not every receiver can use them

Both devices must be on the same network. Guest wifi is a separate network, and many routers block devices on it from seeing each other. That is the reason a screen does not appear in the list far more often than anything else.

Connections

A cast is still a stream on your playlist. If your service allows one at a time, stop playback on the sending device first. See Maximum streams reached.
