What the Device ID and Device Key are, and where to find them
The two lines that identify your TV to mtivi, what each one is for, and why the ID can change after a reinstall.
Your TV is not asked for an email address or a password. It identifies itself with two short strings instead, which is far kinder on a remote control.
The two lines
Where to find them
In the app, open Settings and find the device card. It shows both lines beside a square code. Scanning that code with a phone opens the page where the pair is entered. They are also shown on the screen that asks you to link when your trial ends, so they are in front of you exactly when you need them.
What they are used for
- Linking the TV to your mtivi account.
- Adding or editing playlists from a phone or computer, without typing a long address with a remote.
- Telling our support which device you mean when several sit on one account.
Can the Device ID change?
Usually not. It is derived from the device itself and survives app updates. On a few devices it can change after an uninstall and reinstall, or after a factory reset, and the app warns you when it detects that risk. If it does change, the TV behaves like a brand new device: link it again with the new pair, then move your plan across if that device carried one. See The Device ID changed after a reinstall.
A tip that saves a reinstall. Export a backup before you touch a box that is already set up the way you like it, and keep it somewhere off the device. Your playlists, favorites and layout then come back in one import.
Keeping the key private
Anyone holding both lines can attach your device to their account, so do not post them in screenshots, reviews or group chats. Blur them out of photos of your TV.
