Skip to content Fix subtitles that are out of sync
Nudge them earlier or later from the player, and know when the file itself is the problem.
Subtitles that run ahead of the speech, or behind it, are fixable from the player.
Nudge the timing
Open the subtitle timing control while the title is playing and move it in small steps until the lines land with the speech. The control says whether the track is currently early, delayed or in sync, and a reset puts it back where it started.
| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
| Off by the same amount all the way through | A fixed offset. Nudging fixes it completely. |
| Fine at the start, worse later | The file was made for a different cut or frame rate. Nudging cannot fix this. Find a matching file. |
| Only some lines are late | Generated subtitles on a hard stretch of audio. Nothing to fix. |
Turn the subtitles on first. The timing control adjusts the track that is playing, so it needs one selected before it can move anything.
