Why services use it
A player with those three details can ask proper questions: give me the live channels, give me the films, give me the series with their seasons, give me the guide, tell me when this playlist expires. A plain playlist file answers only the first of those.
What it looks like
A server address like http://example.com:8080, then a username and a password. If your service sent one long link containing get.php, username= and password=, your three details are hiding inside it.
